What is a JSON Web Token (JWT)?

A JSON Web Token (JWT) is an open standard (RFC 7519) that defines a compact and self-contained way for securely transmitting information between parties as a JSON object. It is widely used for authentication and authorization in modern web applications.

Is decoding a JWT the same as decrypting it?

No. Decoding simply translates the Base64Url encoded string back into readable JSON. By default, JWTs are signed but not encrypted, meaning anyone can read the contents if they have the token. Do not store sensitive secrets in the payload.

Are my tokens sent to your server?

Why are there three parts in my JWT?
